THE NO-CONFIDENCE RESOLUTIONS.

The following are the resolutions which Major Atkinson moved last night '[That, having in view the financial position of the colony, this House is of opinion,—

•" (1.) . That .the expenditure from the Publio Works Fund for. the:year 1885-86 should hot exceed £1,000,000, f "(?.) That it is not • desirable at present that the Government, should undertake the construction of the East and West Copt and Nelson and West Coast Railways. ■•"■(3.) That no new loan should bo authorised thia session.

That one of the principal objects of the construction of the North Island'trunk railway being to ' open the interior of the North Islandfor settlement, and .seeing .that the Government has failed to'niake. arrangement's for seeming the land necessary for this purpose, no further-expenditure Bhould be incurred beyond the present contracts, and for .the .completion pf the Working surveys ijntil Batiafactpry arrangements have been ijiade for the acquisition of not less than {500,000 acres of land for settlement. ■'(s.) -That a reduction of not less £30,000 upon the Estimates of the Con* solidated Fund, as brought down, should be made for the year 1885-86, and a reduction of not less than £BO,OOO for the year 1886-87, without transferring any of flie pi,ount now charged against the ponsolidaM fund to 1 Lpain Aqcountj ' " (6.) That tlie Government be requested to take' immediate steps to give #ct to the above resolutions."
