ST. MATTHEWS' CONCERT.
The third of the series of winter entertainments was given at St, Matthew's School-room last night, the audience being by far the largest that has assembled there this season. The programme contained the usual number of items, and there was no necessity for, making even the' slightest alteration. Among the instrumental selections were two piano duets,' played respectively by the Misses Drunimond, and Misses "M.' Druinmond and MoMaster, in which the tiny performers showed a degreo of proficiency jihat almost bordered on piecocity, and they were, of course, very loudly applauded. The Orpheus Club sang two glees, which were highly appreciated. Mrs \nkotellrendered "La Favorite," and MrF. G. Moore, " Friend pf the Brave" for which he was loudly encored, Miss Deakin's "Good Company" elicited a most flattering encore, to which she responded with, " I heard a voice in the tranquil light." The song is a difficult one, and requires an unusual compass of voice. The extreme notes were, however, taken with tho utmcst clearness and precision, and the song came in for loud applause. Mr Foley was at his beat in " Sarah's young man," and had to return to the platform, a recitation "Little Jim" being given in response to the compliment. . Miss Feist played a brilliant piano selection, and her careful and correct exeoution elicited the warmest applause. Mrs J. G.' Hogg's song "Waiting" was a musical treat, and deserved tho compliment which it elicited. The same may be said of Mr Stansfield's capital song "A free lance am I," Miss Hirschberg played a medley on Scotch melodies in a masterly manner, and refused an encore. A pathetic song was appropriately rendered by Miss Payne, and then caine one of the best items on the programme "Flow on thou shining river"a duet by Mr and Mrs J. G. Hogg. Mr Berkley got an encore for a song. Mr Gant concluded .the programme with "The Gallants of England" in his well-known style.
