EXHIBITION EXCURSION FOR SCHOOLS.
To the Editor. Sir,—Mr Buchanan and myself have been moving re the advisability of facilities being afforded by the railway authorities to enable the children of the various schools in the Wairarapa to visit the Exhibition. I shall be glad if you will give publicity to . this letter and its enclosure for the purpose of bringing the matter under the notice of the various Committees, so that they may havo time to arrango by joint action for tho successful carrying out of the proposal, in the event of their wishing to afford the school children an opportunity to visit Wellington. The Committoes should, in their correspondence with the Department, suggest a time for the departure of tho train from Wairarapa, and the return from Wellington.
I am, &c., Geokoe Beetham. Railway Department, Hoad Office Wellington, 2ht August, 1885. Dear Sirs,—With reference to the interview you had with me this morning, as to excursion for school children from the Wairarapa to Exhibition, excursions will be run if there aro something like 500 children for each, at a rate of 2a per head, and parents, tutors, or guardians, at 7s each. Probably it could bo arranged ; that children of two schools, (say Masterton and Carterton), could come on the same day, and children of schools situated in the Lower Valley on some subsequent day. Tickets to be taken out by the Committees in each case. The Department could arrange for an excursion during the week after next, or subsequently; it is necessary, however, in order to do this, that I receive an intimation in good time, so that complete arrangements may be made. I am, etc,, J, P. MAXWELI, General Manager. G. Beotham and W. C. Buchanan, M,H.R.'s.
