A report has lately been current that Germany had annexed-some of the: Caroline Islands, over which Spain possesses a protectorate as part of the •Phillipine Islands, with a view to obtaining Papuan labourers for the newly established German settlement in New Guinea. The rumor lacks official confirmation, and is discredited in welk nformed quarters.
