A REAL SURPRISE.
The Government will probably take heart of grace after what took place in the House of Representatives last night. They have brought down a considerable number of measures since the opening of the session, but not a single one of their policy Bills | assed through without being cut atid hacked about until the original shape has altogether disappeared, They have been defeated so many times that they, were begining to feel quite indifferent as to what happened. Like the proverbial eel they got used to being skinned, Last night, however, they actually carried the Customs and Excise Duties Bill without amendment, although several attempts were made to alter it, After that we may expect to see them live through the session,
