The following is the full Hansard report of the question relating to tjie appointment of a Trustee for the Mapterton Park, put by Mr Beetham in the House on the 3rd inst., and the reply qf the Premier: —Mr Beethmn asked the Government if they will state tjio reasons that influenced the Colonial Secretary to appoint, as Trustee of the Masterton Park, Mr Arthur Rigby Bunny, the Park Trustees having recommended another gentleman to fill the' then-existing vacancy 1 Ha thought it to necessary to put the House in posssession of_ the reason that induced liipi to ask' this question, He would reijd the corres- / spondence which had . taken place between the Masterton.Park Tiroes and the Colonial Secretary, whiwivas as follows• 7 . "Masterton, 18th October, 1881 ■' Sir,—l have the honor, by direction of the Mastei'ton Park Trust, to ask you to respectfully request His Etolloncy the Governorto appoint William Beard, Esq., of Masterton, soliimor, (i member of the Masterton Park TrußtJ in place of Mr W, W, McCardle, resigned. Cooper, Under-Secretary, Wellington, asking for W, G, Beard's full name and the proper spelling, jmd dated the 3Uk October, 1884, A letter was 'forwarded by the Socretaiy of th& Masterton Park to Mr Cooper, giving Mr Beard's full name and proper spelling. The. following notice appeared in the Gatdk ItTrustee Mattcrton Park Reserve appointed, '' Colonial Secretary's Office." " Wellington, 3rd December I§B3. "His Excellency the Governor has boon pleased to appoint Arthur Righy Bunny, Esq., to be a Trustee.of fcW MastortonPark Reserve, Mastertiifemnder ' The Greytown and Park and Cemetojy Reserve Management Act, 1876, vice W, W. . McCardle, resigned, "P. A. Birflfcy." Ho would like it to bo undersrood that the Park Trustees made no Reflections whatever on the character of Mr Arthur Bunny—he was aii estimable man, both as a public man and a gentleman; but they desired to call attention to the scanf; justice they had received at the jjands of the Colonial Secretary, and had asked him (Mr Beetham) to bring the matter forward that they might ft havo some explanation of the treatment received. Mr Stmt thought that Parliament had something better to do than to go into questions of this sort. The reason which induced the Government to appoint Mr Bunny was that he was fitted for the, office, He was not aware that they were ' required by law to appoint the man nominated by the Masterton Park Board. He thought it would he a dangerous thing for a corporation to say that no one was to come into office on tho Board unless he waa appointed by them.
