LIBRARY COMMITTEE.

Tiie ordinary monthly meeting of the Library Committee was held Inst night. Present—The Mayor (Chairman), and Messrs Beetham, Westin, Beard, Berry, Smith, and Gapper. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported that tl)e receipts since last'meetnjg tyere JDli Gs, payments £l7 llis Bd, Bank credit balance £8 15s 7d, outstanding rents and rates due to date £62 9s 3d, and aocounts due £7loa. The Chairman moved, and Mr Beetham seconded, that the sum of £2 2a, on old outstanding rent due by the Borough Council, the liability of which was disputed, be written off, there not being sufficient evidence to prove the claim.— Carried. Mr Beetham moved, and Mr Beard seconded, that the sum of 25s charged agaiust the old Acclimatization Society be also written off.—Carried. Accounts amounting to L 7 10s were passed for payment. The Secretary produced an acknowledgement of the wceipt qf a diaft sent to King & Co., London, : Mr Berry moved; aiid Mr Beard seconded, that in consequence of the Book Committee' not having brought up a report on the printing of a catalogue, the question be adjourned till next meeting. —Carried. Mr Gapper moveu, and Mr Beetham seconded, that in conscience (if |he House ClomniitteQ having failed tq report, on the proposed alteriitions 'to 'the building, the question bo adjourned till next meeting. The Book Committee brought up a repqrt that they did not coiner it advisable to purchase the set qf Sir Walter Scott's Works qftered, Mr Gapper moved, aiid Mr Beard seconded, that the report be adopted.— Carried, ■ , The Secretary brought before the meeting the unsatisfactory position in relation to the museum, there being no person connected with the Institute who had anv control or custody of the curios that had been sent in. Mr Beard moved, and the Chairman iieconded, that the curious collected for the museum he left in charge of the House Opipjitteq, anc) that they request MrR. Brown, to act in conjunction 'with them in furthering the objects'of the museum,.and to obtain' such' information from him in cennectiou therewith as they may think expedient, It was resolved to grant the Benevolent Society use of the room free.
