LOYAL UNITED FRIENDS.
A new lodge of the Independent Order of Friends was opened at the Temperance Hall, Masterton, last night by Bro W. (Men, R.W.G.M. The usual ceremonis3 appertaining to the opening of new lodges having been performed, the new brethren, numbering twelve members, took their seats.' The nomination of officers' then took place, resulting in the election of the following brethren, to serve for the first six months' Worshipful Master, R. Brown; Deputy Master, S. H. Wickerson; Secretary, A. Hathaway; Assistant Secretary, F, O'Connor; Treasurer, J. J. Smith ; Steward,. R. Jones; Deputy Steward, J. Check; 1.T., J. G. Fawcett; 0.T., P. S. Christensen; Lodge Assistant, E. Johnson; S.P.M., J, Brown. The newly elected officers having taken the oath of office, administered to'them in a most impressive ' manner by the, R.W.G.M.,- were then'olothed in regalia, and took their respective situations. . The Lodge charter was read over, and the Lodge named the ''Delta," being the fourth under the New Zealand constitution. The hew Lodge was then opened iu duo form bythe W.M., Bro R. Brown, and business despatched. Six new members were proposed, and the Lodge,.was duly closed, During the evening, Bro Culleii read the lecture on the symbols, signs, and tokens appertaining to the order, which was of a highly instructive character. A vote of thanks was accorded, to Bro Oullon for the time and energy he had used in successfully starting the Lodge. The next meeting was arranged for Thursday, July 30, at 8 o'clock, in the Temperance Hall, when the regular night of meetingwill be fixed, trusteesappointed, and any other'initiatory business completed.
