CARTERTON TOWN BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held yesterday. Present -Crs R. ' Fairbrother (Chairman), A. Campbell, H. Callister, W. Parker, and W. Vickerstaff. The minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of L2Blßa Bd. A letter was received from Mr J. Gorman, requesting that the drain on Lincoln road bo cleaned out, and tho Chairman informed the Board that he had been interviewed by Mr R. Hooker, in respect to some repairs" to. the same road. _ Both jobs were allowed to stand over till dry weather sets in, as was also tho footpath, and widening the road at the. south end of the town, Mr Vickerstaff informed the Board that Mr Aplin offered to sell tho Board an acre of land for a' gravel pit for L 45, and he (Mr Aplin) would put a good substantial fence around it. After discussing the matter, it was resolved to wait before giving any decided aqswer to MrArjlnj.' -'"•' ,"' '" A discussion was held about the Town Reserve. The Chairman mentioned that he thought it might be made moreattracfcive if someornamental trees were planted on it, and after considerable discussion on the matter, it was resolved to consider it at a future meeting. It was resolved to employ a man to grub up the' gorso roots opposite Mr Andrews' shop. Accounts amounting to £Bl3s 9d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
