LAND BOARD.

(From the Evening Press.) The regular mectjng was held yesterday mornhu;. Present-Messrs B, Bunny (in the chair), G. Beetham, T, Mason, )V, W. McCarcjle, and f. A. Fitzherbert. The schedule of lands applied for Bince last meeting on perpetual lease and deforced payment, showed a total of 942 acres, at an upset price of £1,024= Us, and deposjts paid to the amount of £379s 9d. There were six applicants, four for lanfl at Mangagne and twp at Mangahap. A largo portion of the. business on the order paper was held oyer until next meeting, in order tljat Mf C^inmissioner Marchant might be present. A memorandum from the Under-Secre-tary for Crowns Lands, ra received, stating that the Minister does not consider that the department should undertake tho responsibility for informing deferred payment selectors that they can effect a sayjng by capitalising, their unpaid instalments, On' Mr Beetham's motion, seconded by Mr Mason, it was resolved that the Board see'np reason to alter their opinion, as they consider this matter within their province, and that the resolution previously passed should be carried out. A further communication with reference to three applications for refund of the difference between sums paid and; capitalised amounts, from the Under-Secretary, was read, in which it was stated that no such claims could be allowed. Mr Beetham moved, and Mr McCardle seconded, a resolution to the effect that the Board viewed, with regret, the action taken by the Minister, of Lands with respect to the applications.—Carried. With reference to the alleged wholesale destruction of totara and other valuable timber on the To Hoe bridge contract, a letter was received from the Wairarapa East County Council to the effect that instructions had been given to the con-

tractor not to fall more timber than was actually required. Mr Beetliain gave notice that at tho next meeting of the Board he would move that the resolution passed at the'hist meeting, with reference to the with 1 ; drawal of lands for sale, be rescinded.. J|
