It is to bo regretted that a misunderstanding should have arisen with respect to the Wairarapa heats for the Senior Cup. The original arrangement was that Greytown and Masterton should play; but the former not being prepared, the. match was put off, and Carterton' meantime claiming a place, the question, was reconsidered by the Union, ■ with "the result, we are informed by the Secretary of the Masterton Club, that the' three Wairarapa Clubs were written to and asked to'-arrange their two- matches, at' the same time intimating that the last' must not bo played later than the 27th insfc., (to-morrow week). The local, Secretafies then - corresponded upon the subject, witlithe.result that those. of the Masterton and Greytown Clubs agreed' that places should be drawn for at Masterton. Of this, we are assured, the Carterton Secretary was duly: informed, but he did not attend on the day appointed, nor did'he forward any protest against the course adopted. In drawing, Carterton and Greytown were chosen to play in the first heat. We now learn from unofficial -sources that Carterton has decided not to play to-morrow. If the facts are,as stated above,-, and we believe they are, then Carterton runs a great risk of a bye being scored against it. ■ This would be hard lines for the Club, becaiiseit is evident that many members were not aware of the new arrangements which liad been made., A charge has been made against the two elder clubs that they had arranged ,to get rid of Carterton first, and then decide between themselves. . We need scarcely say that the statement is absolutely untrue, nor do we-believe'-that it originated from members of the Carterton Club, Masterton is ready to play at any time, and so is Greytown, no. matter what club they have to meet. The whole difficulty has undoubtedly arisen out of the decision of the Union to allow the Wairarapa Clubs to arrange their matches to suit their own convenience, ,Had the names of all the teams been put*together, and drawn for places,, as was formerly' done, everything would have gone off smoothly,
