LANDS BOARD.
(Evening Preßs,) Tho regular meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday morning, Mr Marchant (Commissioner of Crown Lands) presided, the following members being present:-Messrs Bunny, Fiizherberfc, McCardle, Beetham, and Mason. The Chairman announced that Mr Aiilelius Smitji, Secretary to the Board, had resigned his position in tho Civil Service, and it was unanimously'resolved that a letter should be addressed to him expressing the regret of the Board at the. loss of his services.' Three applications for transfer of, deferred payment sections were granted all conditions having been satjsfiecj, viz.: Section 29, Block IX, Pohangina, F, Palmer to E. Broderick; No. 1589, Kai-1 ranga, J. H. Burmeister to J. Bell';
section 30, Block IX, Pohangina, E. Carr to J, H. Stevens,
An application from Mr J. H. Corbefct for a refund of the difference between the Bum of the deferred payment instalments and the capitalised value of section 36, Block VIII, Mangahao, was considered by the Board., After some discussion it was decided to allow the matter to stand over for the present, the Commissioner meanwhile to see that information was given in futuro as to the advantages of capitalising to applicants''for final payments,
The following statement of the proposed expenditure on roads to open up the Crown Lands during the year 1885-1886, was adopted; Tokomaru, £1000; Waitapu and Otamakapua, £6000; Pohangina, £2000; Makuri and Tirau'mea, £5000; Pahiatua and Mangaone, £2000; Kopuaranga, £3000; Foot of Tararua Range, £1,500; Parahika, L 800; Karewaruoa, L 500; Mokara, L 500; Kai-
whata, L 1.500; S. and E.' Puketoi, L 4000; votes to bo renewed, Parahika, Karewaruoa, Kaiwhata, 12,800 : ; total L30.C00. The Board then took into consideration the. report' of May 9th, by Mr G. T. Robinson, Ranger, upon 53 deferred payment sections, comprising 6,698 acres at Kairanga, Arawaru, Mangahao, Pohangina, and Mangaone. It disclosed a very satisfactory state of affairs. Of those in arrears as to improvements, it was resolved to call upon three only to show cause why their licenses should not be cancelled. "'.'.'."'
In the case of a settler who had, through a mistake' as to his boundary, effected certain improvements in a neigh-, bouring section now open for lease, it was resolved that Government be recommended to withdraw said section from lease; the matter to be dealt' with later. The meeting then adjourned.
