In the House of Commons today, the Marquis of Hnrtinglon, Secretary of Statu for the War Department, in reply to a question, stated, regarding operations in the Soudan, that the Government has decided to make Wady Haifa the advanced frontier, and to withdraw the troops to that point on tlie rising of the Nile, The expndition to IChartoun; would be abandoned, and an endeavour would ha made to establish an administration fiom Dongola. It was intended to complete the railway system along the Nile, but the projected line from Suakim to Berber would be relinquished, In conclusion, Lord Hartington stated that England would continue to re'-ain possession o' Suakim until arrangements could be concluded for the occupation of that port by some civilised Power.
