WASTE LANDS BOARD.
(From Press). A meeting of the Board was held yesterday morning;' the following members being presents-Mr J. W. A. Marohanfc * CommisionorofCrown Lands, (Chairman), Messrs Fitzhjrbert, Bunny, McCardle, and Masoi :>: The sohedule of lands sold since last jneetingj:svas produced. It showed a total ofv!oßßa3r 31d sold, at a price of £644 iOs. Abetter from Benjamin Gumming, selector of section 41, Block VII, Manga- , j§ne, relinquishing his section, was received i 'and it was resolved to release liim from his engagements. It was resolxed to transfer section 7, Block IV,, Makuri, fgomJ. L. Vaugham to J. L.- Vaughan and AY; J.Yaughan, as requested by tliem'. ■ A- niemo was read from-the UnderSecretary for Crown Lands stating that in future no totara lands are to be sold, as . it is proposed to reserve such lands in connection'with ,a system of forest conservancy.:' ' j. ' -In answer tp'jan application from the Wairarapa East/; County for permission' for the road contract|ivto out timber on Crown Lands : at of Alfredton, : andintheMangaoneßlock,' ( a'nd inManga- j tainoko Block,, the chairman pointed out ' : % that the land in the Mangaone Block having been advertised for sale, permissioncould not be : given ; the-Mangatainoko Block, being native land; the Board had no power. As to 'the- Crown 1 Lands at. the back of Alfredton, it >was; decided to grant the permission, .asked, an officer of the Board to meet.the Engineer and' arrange as to the trees to.betoken. It. was arranged to allow Alfred Rogers - selector 'of -section 1546, Blcck ; V„ Kairanga, topay" off the capitalised Valanceof the purchase money on his section. A memorandum was read from the Chief Surveyor stating that the strip of Crown land fronting sections 1 .'to 6, Eketahuna, has been.laid out in sections by Mr Grenville, andthe plan received. It w;is resolved.to have the.land valued' under section 164, Land Act', : 1877, and' , that the selectors be asked if they are willing to purchase, at a. valuation to b@ fixed by the appraiser apposed by % Board, or to have the land put up to pubi lie competition on deferred payment. The Chairman said that in answer to II an application from tho Evening Press. to be placed on the same footing as tlip other local papers with respect tp au>err tising, he had recommended tho Govern, 1 menttudoso, and the rccomnienu>tjgii | had been approved of. Mr Macdonald,. of Tokomaru, wrotg , stating that the settlers in the block might be compelled to call upon tho Guveriiment.to complete a dray road between the Brunswick line and the Tctkoniaru | Block, which he said was plainly marred on the Government plan, It was resolved ' to inform him that the plans do not show it as a dray road, and there are nqt suftu 1 ciont grounds to warrant the Board in re^ 1 commending the Government to' expend/ 1 any more money on tho roads, A report was read from the Commis. 1 sioner of Crown Lands on thp lands avail. 1 able for settlement adjacent to Maßterton, " / It was resolved, on Mr Bunny's motion, ( to have a plan prepared by next moeting showing the most urgent roads to be made within the current year, and an estimate of the cost (not exceeding £15,000) made. Mr McCardle gave notice'that at next meeting of tho Board .he would move, That the Board consider, the advisablness of offering some Crown lands on perpetual lease in the vicinity of Masterton. ltwas resolved that the question of dealing with the unsold cash lands should 4 be postponed until next meeting. | The Board then adjourned.
