AN INQUIRY.

To the Editor,

Sir,—Will you kindly allow mo space in the columns of your journal to solicit information from anyone that is willing to give it, viz., the cause ofihe death of a pair of plough horses, under the following circumstances:—About eight months ago, one of tho pair alluded to suddenly showed symptoms of indisposition, and would not eat its feed, either before or after work. (The pair of horses were used for ploughing,) It was thought if it was given a spell for a few days it might recover, but this proved of no avail, for each day it grew worse, and on the ninth day it died. Everything was done for it that was considered best, judging from its symptoms, which were at first those of a horse foundered. After it died it was opened, to ascertain- if possible the cause of death,' when it was found' that the lungs instead, of being in a healthy condition, were one mass of bad matter, and contained a liquid like dirty water, which emitted a very offensive odour. Last week, the fellow one to that just alluded to, showed exactly similar symptoms, and died four days afterwards. I would ask whether there is any remedy for this serious complaint, for it appears to me it is an infectious and incurable one. The horses lost were a- fine pair, valued at about £7O, and they took. first prize.two years ago at the Pastoral Society's show, for the best pair of plough horses on the ground. They were the proporty of Messrs J. and W, Bidwill, who know more may follow, In tho interests of owners of draught horses generally, I earnestly solicit comments on this rather exceptionable case. lam, &0,, W, S. W.
