(United Press Association) Reefton, Tuesday, The twocounty election pjtitions which have been before the Magistrate's Court since January last, were brought to a conclusion on Saturday, In tho first, which was a petition against the election of Patrick Brennan, for Reefton Riding, sixty-six out of seventy-one votes alleged to have been recordediinproperlyforhimwere struck off, and this election was declared void, and the candidates declared properly elected were Messrs Menteath and Campbell. Costs were given against Brennan at £lO3 12s. In the second petition against Menteath 21 vo-es wero (hil'engadjbut only 13 was do clared improperly recorded, and as Menteath's majority stood at 19, the striking off did not effect the election, but made Campbell and Brennan ties. The Magistrate gave his casting vote for the sitting member, and Brennan consequently no longer holds a seat in the Council. Nearly 200 witnesses were examined, and the costs amounted to nearly £IOOO. Probably an appeal will be made to the Supreme Court. Auckland, Tuesday.
