CORRESPONDENCE.
COST OF SPECIAL SETTLEMENT SECTIONS.
To the Editor,
. Sm,—Mr George Beetham said, whilst addressing his constituents the other evening, and speaking upon Special Settlements, that ono hnndred acres of land would cost the holder (I presume he meant during the term of payments, extending over ten years) the very large sum of £9OO. As Mr Beetham is supposed to be an authority in these matters, perhaps he will be kind enough to show your readers how he makes it up. It is one of those statements which should not be made without giving details, as it is likely to dishearten many intending members, and prevent tlmm from taking up the land, and consequently retard t)ie settlement of the country, which Mr Beetham professes to be anxious about, I for one am inclined to dispute the correctness of the assertion, and am prepared to challenge it upon his publishing details.
1 am &c, A Special Settlement Member, Masterton, March 24th 1885.
