MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the School Committee was held last evening, Present, Messrs Boddington (Chairman), Payton, Lowes, Woodroofe, Hogg, and Girdwood. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £4 16s. Correspondence was read from Board re venting Wesleyan School room, and additions to present school, also ad interim report of Inspector of aohool's visit dated 16th December; from Board stating that capitation would be allowed on the attendance at the Second School. From Mr Suowdon offering to sell an acre in Victoria St, as a site for a second school, It was resolved on the motion of Mr Girdwood to Inform tho Board that the probable attendance at the side school would be 75 and out of this number 25 would be likely to join from the existing school, Tho Teaoher's report stated that during tho past month the average attendance had been 409, the highest, 444, and the lowest 281. He pointed out that gravelling was required in the playground. Mr Girdwood, the visiting member for the past month, said he put on his teams to supply the gravel, but he found he could not obtain access to the Borough gravel-pit. The thanks of the Committee were expressed to Mr Girdwood for the practical interest he had displayed in repairing the playground, and he was requested to complete the work of gravelling as soon as might bo_ expedient. Accounts were passed for payment to Wood and Cavanagh for £2, and Mrs Shepherd £2 10s, and the meeting adjourned, Mr Hogg being appointed visiting member for the ensjjjne;. month.
