Tho steamship Ringarooma arrived yesterday from Auckland, Soon after she berthed it was discovered that a steward named Thomas James was suffering from smallpox. The passengers had disembarked, but fifteen of them wero subsequently secured, and sent to tlio quarantine station. Several othor passengers cannot bo traced, and are still at large. Tho vessel has been placed in quarantine. Melbourne, Wednosday.
Mauritius advices to hand to the 10th inst. under that date from Messrs Ireland, Fraser & Co., report of the sugar market as follows Crop accounts are unfavorable owing to the shortness of the rainfall. Trade generally is unsatisfactory- The month's clearances of sugar include 900 tons for Port Chalmers and 300 tons for Wellington. Freights: Australia 10 to 15, to New Zealand 20. Exchange: GO day's bank credits, New Zealand 18 per cent, ditto Australia 19i per cent. Stock: Sugar in hand, 37000 tons, The exportsthis season amount to 6,000 tons, .
