PAHIATUA ROAD BOARD.
The above Board met on the 31st ultimo Present—Messrs McCardle, Hall, H Sedcole, Smith, Crewe, and Avery. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. ■ ■ CORRESPONDENCE. Outwards.—Letter to Minister of Public Works asking him to allow the Board to take up £lBOl under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. Inwards—From Mr Bauckeand others asking Board to rescind resolution re metalling one and a-half miles of Tiraumea road, and to spend the money in patching the worst places first. From Mr Crewe stating that in consequence of the Board being so long in getting office accommodation, he should in future charge three shillings per meeting for use of room and lighting. From East County Council containing copy of resolutions and report of finance committee on the present state of County funds.
From Mr Whitcombe stating his men in his absence had usee} some matai on the road side and asking the Board to value it and he would pay; also a letter from same resigning any position he might have held as engineer to the Board.
From Property Tax Department with amended schedule of Crown Lands upon which to demand rates for 1884-5.
The overseer's report was then read and considered satisfactory as to work done, and. he was ordered, to, popprt upon Tiraumea road by next meeting. Tho following accounts were road and passed for payment:—Rionxand Corbett, £sl3s 2d; Jensen & Co,, £4 4s lid; wages, £27 2s; Smith & Hogg, 10s Cd; Doran, £l3s 3d; Baucke, £3B ss; total, £7718s lOd. It was decided to allow Mr Whitcombe's accounts to stand over till next meeting. RESOLVED, " That Mr Whitoombo bp written, to asking him to attend adjourned meeting and oxplain his accounts; and, va matai posts taken from road, that he was' to pay the Board what ho considered a fair valuo for thorn, That Mr Hughes' offer of an aero for £25 be accepted, and that the same be paid for on production of title. Also that Mr H. Sedcole be asked to draw out plan and specifications of office to bo 16 x 12 inside with 9ft studs, so that the building may be proceeded with at the earliest possible date. That a committoc to consist of Messrs Avery, Sedcole, and Growe, bo formed to consider matters in connection with East County Council, the general opinion being that it would be cheaper to maintain that part of the main road running through the diqtrto than to be annually rated by Pie Oqunty tg keep up a staff for that particular work.
That Mr Crowe's demand be complied with,
That the Overseer be empowered to order any timber required for culverts. Tenders were then opened for metalling l£ miles, in three sections, on the Tiraumea Road,
Aoooptod! H, Giles, Is 74 per yard. Declined: Peebles, No 1 Section, 2s, Nos 2 and 3, Is lOd per yard; Smith, No 1, Is lOd, No 2,25, No 3, Is lid per yard; Cornelious, Nos 1, 2, and 3, Is lid per yard; Dawson,' Nos 1 and 2, 2s 6d per yard.
