UPPER TAUERU ROAD BOARD.
The usnal monthly meeting of the above Board was held at Bowlands on Monday'2nd February, at 11.30 a.m., when tho following members were present Messrs R, S. Hawkins (chairman), John' Rutherford, and John Wingate. CORRESPONDENCE. . From Messrs Mackay Bros,, objecting to road'being'laid off'through his property. From Castle Point Board stating that there, was no record of a road having been laid off through Messrs Mackay's property; but a sum of £l2 had been granted for repairs on said roiidv. From property-tax commissioner re road rates'on Govei'mnent lands.
Froili Masterton; Road ; Board stating that.rates would not bo handed over-until agreement was signed. . From Messrs Beetham Bros, . re £lO subscription towards bridle-traok via Lagoon Bridge. . From County Council, asking opinion of Board as to Boards taking over liabilities of County Counoil and repairs of main roads.
The Chairman reported that on the 26th inst. he had met Messrs Perry and McLauchlan, when they ascerta.ned that a good lino of road could be got to a fair ford at the boundary between Messrs Perry and Mackay, which would serve both properties, and it was resolved that Mr McLoughlan be instructed to lay off the road as proposed, .
The-Chairman informed the Board that he had seen Mr Bremner (re Wangaeliu rates area) and that he haa promised to revise the plans and lay the matter before the Masterton Board,
'Mr Wingate reported haying let tender for felling 80 chains of bush on bridlo track at Lagoon Bridge at .22s per novo, the road line Bft wide to be cleared, It was resolved that Mi Wingato got tlifisoriiboloavedonooliainv/ido on both ends of the bush for a tpfcnl longtji of a a mile' (more or loss) and also get sido cuttings done whero necessary, the traok to be made sft in the solid,
The Chairman was requested to acknowledge the receipt of Messrs Mackay's letter of 14th of January,
The Chairman reportedhaving inspected repairs done on Miller's road and recommended payment as passed for same. Resolved—That cheques should be signed by the Chairman and two members, of the Boar:). Mr John Rutherford applied for further repairs tq be done on the Wairiri road, and it was resolved that the Chairman inspect the road with Mr Rutherford and report to the Board as to what works are necessary, t])e probable cpst, and the best way of carrying them out, • Resolved—That when Mr T. Perry has completed the work at Hood's line to the satisfaction of the Chairman and Mr Hood he be paid for the same. That pending the decision of the Castlepoint and Masterton Boards re County liabilities and taking over main road, action of this Board be postponed.' The following accounts having been passed for payment the Board adjourned till first Monday in March:—James Miller (road work), £10; William Raymond (Wairiri road), £10; Charles Milweron, (Wingate's line), £2; Returning Officer, £2 2s; J. Payton & Co., £ll3s; Smith & Hogg, 18s; Lyon & Blair, £3 Us,
