THE TRIUMPH THREE CUTTER.
The Hamilton correspondent of the -Auckland News on Monday writes:—A considerable number of settlers and others .the ground-on Saturday to see the •trial of. (Mr •'Henry Reynolds' new Triumph litre? cutter. In this knife the teeth were, protected by strong fingers. 01; guards', which prevent chok-. fog and -the titree was cut down like a.crop of grass, at about -6 inches from the ground, but left lying evenly on the surface. Between now and Saturday next, when a public trial will, be made at Cambridge. Mi- Reynolds will' have made Beveral improvements to the machine, which Saturday's trial show to be necessary,' "namely, strong fingers for the. heavier,knife,- and apparatus for throwing the' titree, when, cut, to one side-. With-a few slight improvements, jwhich.can-easily bo;made, the .machine will be all that its inventor claims fpr it,' ; and a'valuable assistant to the Bottlers in! the. reclamation of scrub land, doing with a pair of horses and man, at a cos.t.of about 2s (3d per acre, what would cost! s per acre by contract; and for which work men cannot always be got, as they will take any job rather than cutting titree, The machine was made entirely at Woodlands by one of the employees in the blacksmith's shop there, under tho 'instructions of Mr Reynolds. The cost would be about £4O.
