..-..,A\ meeting .of the Special Settlement was held on Wedhesd'a'y.e.ven.tog I .' In ffioabsence of Mr Hall, Mrflawken was voted to the chair.
Mr Haggen stated tho result of communications witli the Government. In regard-to the Maliaralmra the Government jhail jeplied-stating that' the.'block-had settlement under "'other conditions, and they could not therefore grant any portion of i£nj|der specM. settlement conditions. tß'receipt' of tlifs"' reply he applied'for 10,000 acres of the Mangnhao Block to forestall', tlie;a})plic!itipn- v ef any- other Association. ' The application'had been accepted .by thq.Minister.. Jlealso statedthe result of thad'eputation'/fflliich waited 'on the Hon-Mr Ballance in reference to .the. land- required by ; . tire .Association. '" 'Mr Hams' moved'a' - hcavfy' vote of tlunkajtp/% Haggen.for his action on -belKilf -'of the Association.^Seconded by Mr Ware and carried by acclamation. .. Mr.Fennel}'said he .livished to bring rinder'the notice of the Association the fact that tlie ; list of members had been closed with 75 names. A number had since come to him and asked to join the Associatioii',..-He proposed that those who had left' their deposits should be received as membera of. the .Association..- There would ]ie about 100 names altogether.— This was agreed to, ; On the motion of Mr Harris,'.- seconded by Air Fennell, it.was agreed 'that the list :nowclose. . . .'J:

On'the .motion of Mr.Murray;'seconded by- Mr Hams, -'it was resolved -to .communicate'withihe Masterton Association •as to having their .blocks surveyed, --Mr Murray .wished-; to ipoint out that those who.held land in the district on 'deferred.payments could select, as he had iskeithe Hon Mr Ballance this, question distinctly, , .. . ■'.
.: Mr Harding, on behalf of the Exploration party, reported that the block was well-watered and the hills had a very easy slope. There was totara on the bank of the river, but the ground was all subject to flood. The formation was shingle underneath with five or six f ee.t of soil on top, •Mr Morgan said the land was more like .the Small Farm Association land than anything lie had seen. •. Mr Fonnell said it would be important that the Committee should-know how much land eaoh required. He suggested holding a meeting that day weeks, when the first,instalment on survey might be paid.
Mr Morp said he should like to see them applying for 100 acres each, and let them draw off,
A great deal of discussion ensued as regarded the allotment and size of sections, and several motions and amendments were- proposed.' Eventually it was resolved, 'on--tire-motion bf Mr Fennell, seconded by Mr Harding, That tho block bo divided into sections of 100 acres oach. Mr Fennell moved, that the Association be called the Mangahao Special Settlement Association. Seconded by Mr .Harris, and carried. Mr Harris moved, That alternative tenders be called for the block with section pegs and cutting of sidelines. Seconded by Mr Morgan, and carried. Qn the motion pf Mr Harding','seconded by Mr Morgan, it was resolved-that the members draw separately, The meeting adjourned with a vote of thanks to the Chairman,
