EARTHQUAKE.
The New Zealand Times reports that two oarth shocks were felt in town last evening at about seven minutes past G o'clock.. The first did not apper to last longer than a second or two, but the succeeding ono which ensued within about, a couple of minutes, was prolonged for eightor ten seconds. Neither shock was sufficiently violent to effect any damage, but both were distinct enough to be very generally felt. The tremqrs were by no means local, as will be perceived by the telegrams below. The movements appeared to be from north to south,' At Blenheim the first shock appears to have been longer t]ian tl]e secern], but jn thjs City the reverse was t)|e case, although possibly the first tremor did.not attract attention in its initial stage. (united press association.) Wanganui, Jan. 15. A smart shock of earthquake was fejt here this evening.
