THE LATE MR ROBT. McLAREN.

The close of the year 1884 has been mwked by the removal from this life of Several of the early Wairarapa Bettlers, and there is just a possibility that before the last sands of the year have run out another may be called away. Today we have to chronicle the death of Mr Robert McLaren, who died at Martiuborough last Wednesday at the early ago ot forty-three years. The deceased had not been enjoying the best of health for some time■ past, and on Wednesday he succumbed to an attack of brain fever. Dr Smith, of Carterton, and Dr Wilford, of the Hutt, were in attendance, and at the time of I his decease all his relatives were gathered together to take a last earthly farewell, Mr McLaren came to this this district when he was sixteen years of age, and has been connected with station lif# ever since, About five years ago he was in partnership with F. H, Wood, but bis health was against him and he retired fioiu the business. A.hojit .oictht weeks ago he 80ld 1 his station known as the Ngakoiii'ai, and was residing at Martin., borough until he might find an "opportunity of another purchase; He was much respected by all who knew him, because of his genial ways, and much sympathy is felt for Mrs McLaren and the family, six in number,' in their bereavement. Deceased was buried 9& Christmas Day in the Greytown cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev Charles Ogg, of Wellington, A large number of friends and relatives followed the remains to the grave.—Standard.
