SWEETHEARTS FOR SALE.
The following curious extract is from the New Universal Magazine for Ootober:—" A catalogue of males aod females to be disposed of in marriage to the best bidder, at Mr Koith'a Repository at. Mayfair." . Lot 1. A lady of quality, related by the mother's side,to a peer of France; her great-great-grandsire was brought over with William the Conqueror, Fit to go' ln.a coaoh and six, and proper for any rich tradesman. Her lowest price, to prevent trouble, is £SOO per annum pin-money, and a proportionate jointure.
Lot 2, A young lady of £IOO,OOO fortune, to be bid by none under the 'degree of peers, or a commoner of at least treble the income.
Lot 3. A homely thing who can read and write, oast accounts, and make an excellent pudding. This lot to be bid for by none but country parsons.
Lot 4. Three rnaidon ladies, aged, Lot 5. The daughter of a country squire, The father of this lady came to town to sell a yoke of oxen at Smithfield, and a load of hay in the Hay Market. Whoever buys them shall have the lady in the bargain, Lot 6. A. Methodist lady, relict of a knight deceased within this twelvemonth. Would be a gpod bargain to any handsom young gentleman. Lot 7. A very pretty young woman, but a good deal in debt. Would be glad to marry a member of Parliament or a Jew.
Lot 8. A handsome housekeeper just come out of the country, Would do for.any private gentleman. She has been used to go in a one-horse chair, and is fit for a citizen's service on Sundays. Lot 9. A blood of the first rate, very wild and has run loose all his life, but is now and will prove very tractable.
Lot JO. A hackney writer, broken winded and very poor. Would be glad to be released from his present master, a bookseller, and bear the less grievous yoke of matrimony. Whoever will take him into feeding shall have his Pegasus into the bargain. Lot 11. A young ward, now in train at Eton School. His guardian is willing to part with him to any lady for a round sum. If not sold he will be sent into the country and matched with his guardian's daughter,
