BEST HEN IN THE SHOW.

To the Editor, an exhibitor in class 64 best hen in the ehow—l have to complain of your unfair criticism of the Houdan hens.exhibited in this class. ■lfiiji J3ay ''a couple of Houdan hens were also exhibited, hut though of fair size, the legs and plumage were not first-class." Permit me to say they .are hpstrolags, with good -muffs and beards,'fair crestg, good plumage, good le£|B, and Ja shape perfect Houdans, that is if we apcept the standards of excellence laid ; down i in Mr Lewis Wright's Illustrated Poultry, or those of the London Poultry Society and Houdan Club. It is certainly' a compliment the judges passing them as it is evident they knew as much about the birds as the birds knew about the judges.
