A letter from General Gordon received by Wolseley at Debbah, dated Khartoum, November 14, confirms the news of the massacre of Colonel Stewart and Messrs Power and Ferbin by the rebels of Wadel Hhomar. Gordon expresses delight at hearing of the advanco of the British expedition and hopes to be able to hold out until its arrival, He states that he continues with steamers to harass the enemy whenever they approach Khartoum and adds that the Mahdi is only a day's journey distant from that city,
London, November 17. -Reuters telegrams received 19th.— In the House of Commons to-day the Home Secretary has announced that Lord Wolsely's plan is to assemble a force of 2,000 troops consisting ot cavalry aud camel corps at Debbah and ride across tho desert to Khartoum, that is if the tribes residing along the projected route will permit the passage of the troops.
