PAHIATUA ROAD BOARD.
The Board met on' Saturday last. Present—Messrs McCardle in the Chair, Davie, Crewe, and Sedcole. The minutes ot the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Correspondence outwards—Two letters to Commissioner of Crown Lands in re expenditure of deferred payment thirds with plans etc. To Mr Rhodes re his application about falling bush on road line.
Correspondence inwards—From the Crown Lands Office with Treasury memo showing that deferred payment thirds amounting to £loßll6s Id was to the credit of the Board, and approving of the proposed works with the exception of deviation on Tiraumea road.
The Treasurer stated rates to the amount of £l3 4s had been received up to date. Bills were received, from the Examiner office for printing etc., £7 15s 6d; from Mr Manns for use of office up to August, £2; from Government for Acts 4s 6d, and stamps lis
. Resolved—That the bills stand over till next meeting,
Proposed by Mr Davie seconded by Mr Sedcole, that Mr Rioux be furnished with a copy of resolution re timber on roads, and a notice to comply, with the same immediately. Curried.
Resolved—That the Board urge upon tho Government the'nesessity of carrying out the proposed railway from Masterton to Woodville, upon the faith of which lands weie bought throughout the Forty-Mile Bush; aid also, to reject the proposals laid before them by Messrs Hawkins, Bunny, and Maunsell as being the opinion of a few interested individuals, hacked by a meeting of Masterton residents who cannot be accepted- as authorities on the subject of the best means to open up the vast tract of valuable land comprised in the Forty-Mile Bush; and that Messrs Beetham, M.H.R., and the Chairman, be asked'to .bring the matter before the Government.
Proposed by Mr Crewe, and seconded by Mr H. Sedcole that plans, etc. be proposed by next meeting, of work to be done on the road fronting sections 6 7 9 Block IV Makuri.- Carried'
Proposed by Mr Crewe, and seconded by Mr Sedcole that applications be invited for tho situation ot working overseer to the Board, salary 2 guineas per week. Moved by Mr Davie seconded by Mr Crewe that the Works Committee pay a visit of inspection to the Englelield road to decide what works were necessary before calling tenders for metalling, with power to act.-Carried, The meeting then adjourned till the 6th December
