HYDRO-EXTRACTOR OR WOOL DRYER.

" From.:the 'Evening Press. For the last few weeks the well-known firm of Messrs Mills and Cable, of the Lion foundry, have been engaged in the manufacture of a Hydro-Extractor, ■which is to be used for the purpose of drying wool by centrifugal power. This machine consists of an outer .circular shell, constructed of angle-iron and boiler plate inside of which is what is termed a cage or receptacle for the Wool'which is' to be dried. This cage is also circular, and is made of copper quarter inch thick perforated with half inch holes, and is encircled by a strong rim composed of gun-metal. It is three feet six inches in diameter, arid two feet deep, and has an inside lining of brass wire. The shaft or spindle to which the cage is keyed is three inches in diameter, and is fitted with adjustable bearings, the advantage of which saves some trouble. The spindle being taper, all that will be required to be done when the bearings get slack will be to slacken the set screws which hold the brasses in their place in a cast-iron box, and raise the brasses to the required height, Another great advantage, and which is a considerable improvement on the Home made machines, is that the machine will be driven from the bottom, instead of the top, thus saving much wear and tear When working: the oatjo will make about 1500 revolutions per minute, and there will be a presure af 701bs to the square inch, Another improvement has been affected in the matter of weight, and is a most important item, as much expense will be in the driving power. This machine has been designed by Mr Walter Brown, of the city, and will be used in Messrs Exloy and Co's wool-scouring works, Glencraigie, Ngahauranga, The way in which the work has been carried out reflects the highest credit upon the tnanuf acturers.
