Patea, Saaurday. A cottage occupied by Mrs Seaton was burned to the ground at three o'clock this morning through the bursting of a kerosene lamp. The building was owned by Mrs Guy and insured for £IOO in the National. The furniture wa3 insured for £BO in the Colonial. A man named McGowern committed suicide yesterday by cutting his throat with a pair of scissors and enlarging the wound by tearing with his lingers, An inquest will be held to-day. Invercakgill, Saturday. The Gap Eoad Hotel, near Winton, was burned down last night, The cause is unknown. - Nothing was saved. The landlord (8, James) waß absent in Winton when the fire occurred. The insurances are £2OO in the Colonial on the house, and £l5O on the stock and furniture in tho Equitable,
