GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
•• The Greytown Borough .Council- helc '•■ their usual monthly meeting in th< ■ Council Chambers on Monday night. Jfresent—His Worship the Mayoi ' aud Crs Loasby., St. George and Jones '■'*! , Messrs Udy, Cameron, and Max.ton three newly elected Councillor! ■*-'" made the usual declaration and tool their seats. Before proceeding with the business jjM{ the Council Hia Worship spoke in flattering terms of the ex-conucil lors, Messrs Bright and Varuhauii and welcomed the " fresh blood" into llu Couucil. He also took occasion tc mention that he did not intend coming forward for tho Mayoralty again, as he believed in bringing new blood into the Council. . After some of the Councillors present expressing regret at Hit Worship's decision the business was gone on with. The minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed. JRfn Correspondence was read from the ■ letter book: From Returning Officer announcing Messrs Udy, Cameron, and Maxton elected as Councillors at the late election, From Department of Justice asking for returns of licenses paid since 1881. From the Town Clerk of Dunedin • enclosing a copy of the Fire Brigade ■Jfc to be brought befere the House, was decided that a sub-committee consisting of His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Loasby, and Udy meet a similar committee from the Fire Brigade to consider the same. From the Secretary of the Fire Brigade stating what- sort of hose they panted. IgLlt was proposed by His Worship and by Cr Loasby, That the Clerk ascertain what length of hose they require, and that he order the same, the length not to exceed 120 feet. Tho Works and Finance Committees reports, as read, were adopted. Cr Loasby proposed, and Cr Udy seconded, That the Works and Finance Committees consist of the whole Council, three to form a quorum.— Carried. The following motion standing in Cr Loasby's name was then discussed : That after any motion has been disposed, of by the' Council, such motion shall not be brought forward again wiMfe six months but with the umraßnous consent of the Councillors present at any meeting. Cr Udy moved- and Cr Mast-on seconded as an amendment, That the —yord "■ majority" be substituted for fflfflunanimouß."—The amendment was lost on the show of hands. . Cr Gallagher not being present, his notice of motion, That the Council take over the continuation of Fiederick, Leonard, and Kempton streots, was lost. It was decided to instruct the engineer to draw up plans and call for tenders for a bridge across the creek leading to Pawhatu. Accounts amounting to £74 wore passed for payment, and the Conner adjourned
