The monthly meeting was held on Saturday. ' Present-Messrs Donald, (chairman), Matthews, Dudding, Bidwill, Smith, McDougall, Harris ancl Tully.. ... :• Bank balance was reported as .£607, The treasurer presented the half yearly balance sheet. The credit balance of No. 1 Ward was fw2; No 3 do, L 146; No. 3 do, L 100; No. 4 do" L4G175;N0,5d0,L131; No. 6 do LIU; No, 7 do, LI 16: No,B do' L 374 10a. ■ '
Sovoral accounts -vere passed. Correspondence from the Coin, missioner of Native Reserves and from the Treasurer was, read.
From Mr A. Anderson, calling attention to the state of the ford at the Waiohine River at Woodside. It was resolved that the Warden should visit the ford and see what was necessary to put it in order,
From Mr Hollard, complaining • of the state of the culvert near Mr Dunn's, which is not large enough to carry oil the storm water. The surplus now flows down the road and floods part of Mr Hollard's land below the terrace.
It was proposed by Mr Dudding, seconded by Mr Tully—That as soou as the water had cleared off, the present culvert shall be removed-and a wide fordway substituted, so as to allow the slorm water to run off in its natural channel,
From Mr E, Anderson, reporting that plans for the roads taken under the Public Works Act would be forwarded as soon its completed. The clerk was instructed to advertise the roads as soon as he received the plans. From Mr McLaren, enclosing a letter from Mr Harmeura Mahupa authorising the construction of a line of road to grassy bill from the Maryborough and Pabaua Road.
From Mr D. Oamerom applying for a grant to improve the road to the beach through the Pahaua resorve. Granted, but first the engineer was instructed to get the line of road marked off to enable Mr-Cameron'to expend »he money in the proper place, From Mr Kennedy, requesting the Board to fence the gravel pit on section 7, Wharekaka,"-.
It was resolved to allow Mr Kennsdy to fence in accordance with his notice.
From the ranger calling attention to a mistake in tho poundkeeper's return. The,clerk was instructed to enquire into tho matter.
The ranger complained of children being kept from school to tail cattle on the roads.
Tho ranger's report gave amount of trespass fees for the past mouth as £l4B.
The following tenders were opened;— Formation of. Moroa road past Battersea: H. Hodge (accepted), 12s 6d per chain; W. Morris, 13s 9d; A. Dick, 16s 9d; H. J, Power, 19s 3d. For railway crossing' at-Woodside : G. Hough lon (accepted), 16s>6d;A. Dick, 19a 3d; W. Morris, 13s 9d ; H. J. Power, 31a.
Mr Cave waited upou tho Board to complain that tho ranger lud seized somo of bis cows when he was taking them from his yards to the paddock. As the matter was coming before the R.M. Court on Monday, the Board declined to interferejin the meantime. Mr Dudding applied for the Engineer to examine and report on Wall's road from the Duck Ponds to Mr Martin's section. Granted. ,
Mr Matthews applied for permission to construct a piece of road at Kariwai swamp. Granted. MrM:Dougal applied to provide wire and staples for a part of the road fence through Mr MoMasfcer's paddocks. Grautod.
The project to get a bridge across the Ruamahunga to connect Kahautara with the Lower Valley road at Miterata, was discussed, and it was resolved—That Mr Matthews be requested to bring this matter before the County Council. Mr Tuliy applied for perraiesioa to have the sum of £ls expended on Mr D. Cameron's road. Granted. ■ • The board then went into committee to discuss the measures necessary to be taken for legalising several of the roads in the district.
It whb resolved that the Engineer prepare a schedule of all roads not laid down on the district map and that a deputation consisting of Messrs Donald and Tully be appointed to visit Messrs Beetham and Buchanan at Carterton on tho 11th instant to discuss the subject. ; The clerk was instructed to write to fcho_chairman of the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board requesting him to be presont.
