CORRESPONDENCE.
A PERSONAL VINDICATION I
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Your readers will remember Millar stated at the meeting that when I received the money from:him I advised him to clear out, folprove what an unmitigated—well uncertificated bankrupt he is, I ask youJ-to publish the enclosed copy of letters, thus' proving once more "that one tale is good until another is told." ! '■:
[Copt.] September 28,1884, To Seeqt, Mason, Port LytteltoD, Sir,—Do vou recollect when I gave Millar five pounds in your office whether I advised him' to dear out' or whether -I advised him to ' go Bfc-aight back with mo and faoe his creditors ?' May I trouble you to answer this, and believe me to be, Yours very faithfully, Walter Ripp. . "■■ [Answer]'" .October 2,1884. •ToMr ! W. Eapp, \ Sir,—So'far as my memory serves me you told Millar to' go -straight back and face his creditors.' . J. M, Mason, Sergi Port Lyttelton.
There is an old .saying but a very true one, that " liars should v have good memories." Before I have finished with this case, I will prove over half-a-dozen restatements in Millar's evidence. In the meantime, I trust the public who know me will suspend their judgment, seeing that I have been made the subject of an unworthy attack by a man whose acknowledged antecedents, and whose position for years us an uncertificated bankrupt, are only on a par with the attempt Le made to levant from Masterton. An attempt which I believe my prompt mtion was the means of frustrating. As Cor certain creditors of Millar's, who evidently feel annoyed because I recovered my money while they were scrambling over the bones that Millar left; the public will understand, although I believe they will neither appreciate nor' envy their feelings, That intense selfishness pervades a portion of human.nature is a lesson I have learned before today, and therefore I am quite prepared to meet my business friends and rivals over this transaction, on any platform, moral, religious or legal. I am, &c., Walter Rapp.
