affairs at Khartoum has been received at the hands of a messenger, who was sent by General Gordon. The despatches which he brings prove that the withdrawal of the Arab rebels from the town was correctly stated, and that General Gordon has been completely successful in his operations. At the time the messenger left Khartoum supplies were plentiful, and large quantities were being brought in. General Gordon had already despatched his steamers to Sonnaar on the Blue Nile to release the garrison and inhabitants, and preparations were being made ior sending a strong force to attack the rebels at Berber. The messenger met the British expedition which has been sent from Assouan to Dongola, London, September 24. Details to hand regarding tho loss of H.M.S. Wasp show that all the officers lost their lives by the disaster.
