Nelson, Saturday, A woman named Mercer who kopt the Traveller's Rest hotel at Appleby was killed on the railway line at 8.20 this morning, The down train from Belgrove was nearing the railway crossing, and when the engine was within a few yards the unfortunate woman attempted to cross the line the result being that she was struck by the engine and killed instantaneously.

Wellington. Saturday. At the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning the Hon. C. J. Pharazyn was fined LIOO and costs for a breach of the Corrupt Practices Act by voting at the election for a member for Foxton at the late general election while being disqualified owing to an illegal practice at the election in 1881.
