MASTERTON LIBRARY.
The ordinary mouthly meeting of the Library Committee took place last night. Present—Messrs Lowes (chairman), Beard, Hogg, Muir, Bacon, R. Brown, Price, and Redman.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed,
The Treasurer reported that the sum of £25 was in hand for books, aud that library rates to the amount of £43 13s lid ware available,
The Secretary reported that a draft in payment of H. S. King & Co., had been forwarded to them for papers and periodicals, Accounts to the amount of £27.15s 6d, were passed for payment. The Secretary was authorised to get an order and receipt book. The Chairman reported that he, with Mr Beard, had waited upon the Town Lands Trustees, and obtained from that body a grant of £25 towards the purchase of new books.
The various recommendations as regards new books recorded in the library suggestion book were referred to the Book Committee.
The motion of which notice had been given by Mr Muir, "That no subcommittee shall have power to incur an expenditure of a greater sum than £1" was put, and an amendment thereto, proposed by Mr Beard,,"That the limit be £2," was carried,
Messrs Muir, Redman, and Price, were appointed a House Committee, and Messrs Bacon, Lowes, and Brown a Finance Committee.
Mr R. Brown made application on behalf of tho Chess Club for the use of the Committee room for two nights each week,
Mr Lowes moved and Mr Brown seconded, "That the Committee room be thrown open to the ratepayers every night when not engaged," Mr Muir moved as an amendment nnd Mr Price seconded, "That fortwo nights only per week' the Committee room should be thrown open to the ratepayers. The amendment was carried.
Mr Hogg moved and Mr Beard seconded," That the room be let when
required as formerly, but that the rent demanded be reduced froui 5s to 2a 6d per night. The motion was put and lost. The Secretary read a list of several amounts due to the Institute fov rent and he was instructed to demand immediate payment.
