BOARD OF EDUCATION.

[From the Post.J An ordinary meeting of the Board of Education was held yesterday morning. Present—Messrs Blair (ChairrJffi, Buchanan, Bunny, Mason, G. Beetnam, Dr Newman, the Hon Randall Johnston, and the Rev. J. Pateison. A report was submitted by the Inspector relative to complaints laid against Mrs Hanson, mistress of the Park Vale school, who was accused of having frequently let the children out too early, and of having said that she did not care for the Committee. The Chairman and Mr Bunny did not think theßoardwerejustifiedunderthecircunistances in dismissing the teacher, and on the motion of Mr Beetham it was decided to instruct Mrs Hanson not to close the school before the proper hour unless she could show satisfactory reasons to the contiary; a record to be kept for the information of the Committee. . .

A legal opinion was received . from Messrs Brandon and Son relative to the purchase of a site for a school at Dalefield, The writer explained that a proper title could not be obtained because one of the owners of the land was a minor, and might repudiate the action of the trustees when he reached his majority. Mr Bunny promised make further enquiries into <& • matter. ™

On the recommendation of the Chairman, the architect was instructed to specify that in the e~ection of school buildings in country districts a preference should be given for timber growing in the district.

A letter .was read from the teacher of th« Featherston Committee asking the Board to effect some slight repairs to his residence, the roof ot which is leaky. ! The Board decided ,%t no funds were available for the purpose. A report was presented from the committee appointed to inquire into the recent examination of pupil teachers. The committee recommended that some of the teachers who had shown inaptitude for their work should be asked to resign, and that several others who were considered careless should be cautioned.
