A SMART TRICK.
An ex-captain of tho navy, who resides in Rue Puvin, in Puns, was taking a walk the other day in the Luxembourg Gardens when he saw a well-dressed gentleman suddenly raise his hands to his face and manifest signs of violent pain. The old officer went up to him and kindly inquired 1 what was the matter. " Oh, dear, how I suffer! A grain of dust has got into my eye some way or other. Would you please blow into the eye to try and remove itf The captain gently turned up the sufferer's eyelid, and, carefully holding his head in both hands, he began to breathe with every | degree of force, frdm a zephyr to a tempest, over the part until at last the gentleman appeared relieved and warmly thanked his benefactor An hour afterwards the latter becam aware, whilst sitting in a cafe on Boulsvard St, Michael, that he too ha been relieved—of his watch and purse
