THE DUAL VOTE.

Sir,—ln your issue of the sth inst, Mr Hawkns attacks the dual vote, arguing that land has no more right to confer such voting power than the possession of sheep, cattln, or shipping. In commenting on this in your leading article yon make small matter of this extra vote and tax the democrats with the cry against it. I should like to know whether there is such a thing as a democratic or a conservative party ? It seems to mo that the only distinction between the New Zealaud political parties hitherto has been which was the most corrupt, The Opposition says in effect, the Government is bad because they do not possess the high moral perfections that we have, So the Governments in turn fall to pieces by their own rottenness—as soon a3 the" Opposition can agree as to the plunder. But now respecting that dual vote. I believe the only settlement of this question is to do away with the property qualification and substitute a family qualification. Let a man have an extra vote for every child he possesses, not for his laud, his sheep, his cattle or his steamers. I am, ia, Anxious Pahent,
