WAIRARAPA SOUTH.

DECLARATION OF POLL. The declaration of the poll for South Wairarapa was made this day. The following were the numbers polled : Bunny ~, 504 Buchanan 565 Majority for Buchanan, 61. Mr Bunny tendered his most sincere thanks to those 504 electors who voted for him at the late election, and though beaten this time, lie intended, if lus health and strength admitted, again contesting the next election. The white man vote was in his favor, and would have placed him in by a majority, but the Maori vote nearly to a man was dead against him, He strongly recommended all to see that their names were on the electoral roll, and the result next election would be very different, Mr Buchanan said he thanked the electors of thy South for the proud position in which they had placed him, and hoped now the election was over the hatchet would be buried, and they would work harmoniously togethor. With regard to Mr Bunny's imputation of bribery and corruption he had only to say as far as he was concerned it was untrue. Why Mr Bunny should now support the working man he failed to see, as his past career ■ sliowed differently (A voice: You are not fit to wipe his shoes,) He hoped the electors would not look upon him as the enemy of the working man, bub if they had anything to say to come to him freely and he would do his best for all,

A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated the proceedings, There were only about fifty persons present.
