Combined Waibarapa v, Combined WELLINGTON. However, weak as it was the Wairarapa gave an exceedingly good account of itself, espeoially when it is remembered that the Wellington team contained no less'than five of the N,Z. representatives, viz.. Roberts, Webb, Dumbelt, Davy, and Wilson (a Christchurch man), andauyone seeing the game, which ended in favor of Wellin°ton • by two goals to nil, must admit that"the Watrarapa men had exceedingly hard luck. With the exception of when Thompson got •Ins try and Dumbcll kicked the goal from the field the play was mostly in the Wellington quarters, the ball being twice carried over the goal line of the city men and mauls resulting in their being forced down, J. Pe.-ry and Wenham were also several times within au ace of scoring, the play of the former being especially fine, The game was most keenly contested throughout, the country forwards rather surprising their opponents by their dashing play. The Wairarapa team was three short and the services of Messrs Ronaldson, Varnham, and Bunny were enlisted, but tho former hurt his shoulder at tho beginning of second spell and had to retire, the countryffißP men finishing the game with a man Bhort. f The visitors were rather shabbily treated at the hands of the Wellington footballers, as out of some three or four hundred players in the city not one turned out to meettbem on their arrival, or see them off on the return journey.
