MR KINGDON AND THE RECHABITE VOTE.
To the Editor. Sir,—l was present at the conversazione of the Rechabites last evening, and was greatly surprised to hear that Mr Kingdon, in giving an account of his stewardship on the Licensing Committee, should introduce politics into his speech, and speak to the detriment of one of tho candidates now soliciting supply of the electors. Mr Kingdon, while admitting that Mr Beetham supported the last Licensing Bill, which gave to the temperance oause the local ojtion they, sought, advanced the ridiculous presumtion that he (Mr Beetham) did not vote on principle, but because he was a supporter Of the Government who introduced the Bill, therefore he was not worthy of their votes. In speaking of the other candidate, he dwelt on tho commendable fact of his being one of w for a great number of years, and was proceeding to eulogise him sky high, when the noisy disapproval of the audience caused him to come to the rapid and extraordinary conclusion that he did not consider either candidate worth voting for. As no doubt, sir, Mr Kingdon left unsaid those things he ought to have said, perhaps he will explain his views through your valuable columns for the edification of the mystified ones of list evening, among whom was, ' Yours truly, Liberal,
