MASTERTON HOSPITAL.

A committee meeting of the Masterton Hospital was held prior to the general meeting yesterday afternoon. PresentMessrs Boddington (Chairman), laitt, Tayton, Bißh, lorns, Paige, Perry, and Bennett.

Letters wero read from Mr W. H. Beotham apologising for non-attendance at meeting, and from Mr G. Beetham enclosing a donation of £25. On tho motion of the Chairman a vote for thanks to Mr G. Beetham was carried. The sub committee brought up a report and balance sheet for the past year, which was adopted, aud it was resolved that it be published in pamphlet form.

ANNUAL MEETING. Mr J, 0. Boddington, having been voted to the chair 'or the annual meotiug remarked that the paucity of attendance of subscribers might be accepted as an indication that they wore satisfied with the past management of the institution. The following report was then read. EEPOET. The Committee beg to submit their Annual Koport and Balance Sheet; also list of subscribers attached, which has been preparod this year for the purpose of shewing who are the supporters of the institution. The receipts for the year are slightly on the increase, a fact wbioh must be accepted as the sign of a growing interest in the welfare of the Hospital, Twelve meetings of the Committee have been held during the past year. The attendances of the members are as follows; J, 0, Boddington 12; J. Paytou 11 • W. E, Paige 10; Joseph lorns 8; Walter Perry 8; W. a Beard 6; L. M. laitt G; Joseph Bennett, fi; George Fannin, until March when resumed 4; A. Bish, from April appointed 2; W. H. Beetham 1. Alteration and improvements have been madoto the building, a Leamington range having been added and other necessary works, anch as painting the outside of the building, Ac, the expense of which was defrayed by a grant from the Goternnient,

The number of patients admitted during the past year—3l males and 2 females, of these, 26 havs been discharged, cured or relieyed j 4 have died and 8 are still in the hospital, During the preceding twelvemonths the number admitted was 32, thus showing an increase of one patient. The balance sheet attached shows receipts for the year to have been—subscriptions, £239 6s Gd, being an increase of £GB Os 5d on last year's, but a sum of £2410s was received for patients fees during 1882 and 1883, which, say if a similar amount is deducted from above, shows a nett increase of £43 10s fid. which means an increased revenue of £B7O 10s on account of subscription's. The other receipts aro-Govcrnnpt subsidies £203 10a Id; Government grant for alterations, £lll 3s 6d, making a total for thoyearof £554, whioh, added to the' credit balance-at the beginning of the year of £l2 13s 7J, makes a grand total of £566 13s 7d,

The expenditure during the same period amounted to £561 fis lid, leaving a credit balance at date of £5 7s Bd.

The Committee desire again to remind the residents of the district that there are still a great many necessary improvements required to the Hospital and would consequently urge for an inorease in subscription, and more general support from all classes of the community! The officers conneoted with the Hosoital have discharged their duties to the satisfaction of the Committee during the year. Dr Hosking has as usual been regular in his attendance and cavetul with the patients. Mr and Mrs Bulpitfc, the custodian and matron, are to be complimented for the admirable order and cleanliness of the Hospital and surroundings, Their unremitting attention to the wants and comfort of the patients (s -worthy of-the highest praise, * *

The thanks ot the subscribers are due to Mr J, C/Boddington, the Chairman, and to Mr Joseph Payton, the honorary Treasurer, for the great interest they had taken in the welfare of the 'institution, In a great measure the present satisfactory state of affairs has been brought about by these gentleman.

The Committee desire to bear testimony to the efficient manner in whioh the duties of Seoretary have been discharged by Mr W. Sellar, to whose activity the increase in the subscriptions for the past year \s greatly owing.'' ■ ,

The report having been adopted Mr Payton, was ro-elected treasurer, Messrs Fitton and Dalrymple were re-appointed as

auditors, and the following Committee oleoted, viz.. Messrs Boddington, W. H. Boetham, J. Bennett, J. lorns, L, M, Isitt, W. E. Paige, J. Payton, W. Perry, A, Bish, and D.Fulton, : A vote of thanks to tho Chairman concluded tho business.
