Melbourne, Tuesday. Received July 1, 2.25 p.m.—The Victorian revenue for last quarter amounted to £1,510,000, an increase of £156,000 compared with corresponding quarter last year. The revenue for year ended 30th June amounted to £5,939,000, an increase of £332,000 compared with previous year. Kailway receipts increased £256,000. The excise revenue decreased £91,000 owing to readjustment of stamp duties. Pour Australian Governments having agreed to share the expense attaching to extension of British rnlr in the Pacific, Mr Service lias telegraphed to the Agent General in London, stating that the required amount, (£15,000) is guaranteed by the colonies.
Other cases of illness similar to those which appeared at Malvern Prahran, and which were believed to be small pox, continue to occur at different places. A student at the hospital is now seriously ill with same complaint, and. other oases aro reported. The affection is said to bo highly contageous and difficult to diagnose. London, June 30. The Australians commenced a match today at Sheffield against eleven of the Players, The following are the names of the latter:—Barlow, Bates, Briggs, Emmett, Grimshaw, Hall, Hearne, Peate, lead,. Sherwin, and Ulyett. There was an enormous attendance of spectators, and fine weather. An excellent wicket had been prepared, and the ground was in first rate order. The Home team went in first, and were all disposed of for a total of 230. The highest scores made were as follows : Bates, bowled 11 Barlow, bowled 47 Ulyett,bowled.. .. ... 76 Wall, caught .. '.. ~16 Read, bowled 31 Bi'.ggs, bowled 13 Emmett, not out ~ .. 11 The Australians in their first innings had lost three wickets for 65, when the stumps were drawn, Murdoch, not out .. ..25 Gilfen, stumped ... .. 31 were the highest scorers.
