The P. and O. steamship Sutlej, with the inward Suez mail, dated London, May 30, arrived in King George's Sound this morning, London, June 30. It is announced that the Imperial Government has invited the Australasian colonies to contribute towards the expense to be incurred by the proposed extension of British trade .in the Western Pacific. Per Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association: —London Juno 29. Arrived —Ships Paiko, from Napier (February 24), and May Queen from Oamaru (March 10), Sydney, Tuesday. Received. July 1, 11,50 a.m,—The weights for the great Metropolitan Stakes, to be run at the J.O. Spring Meeting, have been published, Malua heads the list with 9st 71b. Legrand is weighted with 9sfc 31b, MartiniHenry with 9st, and Sir Modred with Bst 101b. For the Hawkesbury Handicap, Martini-Henry is weighted with 9st 31bs, and Sir Modred with 9st.
