SUICIDE IN WELLINGTON.

The suicide mania seems to have extended to Wellington. A laboring man, named John Webber, aged 53 years, of Tasman-stre3t, committed suicide at an early hour yesterday morning at his, residenee. Mrs Webber states that she retired to rest early yesternight, leafingfer husband downstairs, and at haftpast' 1 am. he came upstairs for the puipse of going to bed. She then noticed that he reeled about and on asking him what was the matter, Webber replied, "Kiss me I am going to die." She questioned him further when he told her he had taken poison-strychnine. He then kissed his daughter, who is about seven years old, and said good-bye to both. Mrs Webber at once ran for assistance. After knocking up some neighbors named_ Flaherty, she went for Dr Hutchinson, who however did not arrive for some time after death had taken- place. According to Mrs Webber's statement deceased had been ; drinking very heavily for a long time past, but she had never heard him threaten to take his life, though he frequently said be would soon die. They never quarrelled, but on the contrary lived on the best of terms. The house was searched by Sergeant Price and Constable Grey, but no trace of any poison was discovered.— Post.
