SIR JULIUS VOGEL.
The Gisborne Telephone publishes the following letter, in which Sir Julius Vogel retires from the contest for the East Coast seat:— " Dunedin, 22nd May. " May I ask you to announce that I have withdrawn from the candidature q f the East Coast, and thank the friends who have worked for me, and especially make ray acknowledgement's to Mr Gannon and Mr Locke for their, courteous willingness to withdraw in my favor. " I shall be glad to render any aid in my power to the breakwater matter. Difficulties are nearly always the results of faults in the Act, the surmounting of which causes delay and loss; and your draft Act sent, me seems to me . to require many alterations, T shall be happy to confer with whoever takes charge, of it. "(Signed)' JuliusYoqel."
