May 3, The Evening Herald to-day states that the local branch of the Oriental Bank Corporation has received a tileg.iam Instructing it to stop payment. LONDON, May 3. The Oriental Banking Corporation has suspended payment. SYDNEY, Monday. Received May s;' 12,50 p.m.-The doors of the local branch of the Oriental Bank were closed, this morning, and considerable anxiety prevails. The Corporation is liable for £45,000 on note circulation iu this colony, and for about LI 14,000 to other banks doing business iu this city. MELBOURNE, Monday. It has transpired that the Victorian Government has L 150,000 on deposit with tho Oriental Bank,
LONDON, May 3. In tho House of Commons to-day, Sir MiGhael Hicks-Beach gave notice of a motion censuring the Government for the delay, which has occurred in.the arrangements for rescuing/General Gordon and the garrison at Khartoum. ;,; The well-known firm of -Delgefcty,"Du Croz, and Co., general merchants, of Lombard-street, have been converted into a joint-stock company with' a capital of £i,000,000 (sic).
