The Wairarapa Daily. SATURDAY, MAY 3, 1884. THE MASTERTON TOWN LANDS TRUST.
The Masterton Town Lands Trustees paid Mr Robert Hare a well-deserved compliment by electing him as their Chairman last evening, Mr llare is certainly the patriarch of the present Trustees, and the keen interest lie displays in the affairs of the Trust is evidenced by the time and labor he gives to its business. He is thovougly ■familiar with the history of the Trust, and has a ready knowledge of every detail connected with tho properties held by it and he is consequently a very safe man to have at its head. The only other matter ot special importance which cropped up last evening was tlio disposal of the J5250 about to bo received from Greytowu. Messrs Hare and Gapj'er advocated lending it out on mortgage, Mr Mum contended that it should bo spent in purchasing a freehold, and Mr Perry recommended that it should be deposited at interest for twelve months, and that, in tlio interim, they should look out for a suitable ■ freehold as an investment, Tho further consideration of the question .is postponed till next month, but it appears 'to us that Mr p krry's view is tho one that is most likely to bo approved by the residents in the Trust district. It would be more satisfactory to invest the money in- a freehold, while, at tho same time it would be' expedient to lay it out in such a manner that it would produce a reasonable amount of revenue pet' annum. • Mr Perry's proposal would, in a measure, satisfy the requirements of Mr Hare, as regarded interest; and the wishes of Mr James Muir, with respect to the principals
